The Missing Ingredient

South Korea has one of the most well-educated populations in the world. It has more than 100 VCs managing billions of dollars in venture funding. Small and medium-size businesses are everywhere. 8 out of 9 employees work for a small or medium-size business. Korea is a huge exporter and dominates markets like mobile phones, cars, and consumer electronics.

With these ingredients you would expect Korea to be a startup powerhouse. Yet it's hard to point to any successful startups that have become a global success, excluding perhaps, global music sensation, Psy.

What is the missing ingredient that is needed?

We believe the "secret sauce" consists of experience and know-how. Israelis live and breath startups. It sometimes feels as though every other Israeli works for a global startup. This vibrant entrepreneurial environment has led Israeli startups to produce some of the most important technological innovations in the past 30 years.

Connecting Korean startups and Israeli mentorship can provide the winning formula.

Our Mentors

Proper mentorship is one of the most important success factors for startups.

We know that Israel is recognized today as a "startup nation" with the second largest number of start-ups in the world after the U.S., and with the largest number of Nasdaq-listed companies outside North America.

Israeli startups possess a unique quality in that they are always looking at the global market; Israeli startups almost never target the local market, and this is one of the reasons for their great global success. We want to import this thinking to Korea via our Israeli mentors.

Toward this end, we selected a pool of successful and highly experienced mentors from Israel who are currently top executives, board members, angel investors, and startup advisors. Most importantly, they are very passionate about passing their knowledge on to help startups succeed.

The mentors bring experience in development, design, financial, marketing and sales. They have experience in building successful products to global markets. They all have experience working for multinational companies and a versatile understanding of how to build a company that can grow from 5 people to 5,000.

Our mentors work closely with the entrepreneurs, provide guidance and help, record milestones, give useful tips, and review or monitor the objectives.

The mentors serve a dual purpose:

    • Selection: Since the mentors will commit time and effort, they will only choose startups they believe have a good chance to succeed. They will also choose startups that the mentors feel they can help, or are within their realm of expertise.
    • Full alignment with the program's goals: Since the mentors receive most of their compensation for their time through equity or carried interest, their goal is to help the company reach a successful exit so that they can be well compensated for their time and effort. This is the goal of the program, as well as that of the startup founders.

We believe that with Israeli unique know-how we can provide the best mentorship Korean startups need to succeed.

Below is a list of some of our great mentors.
